So Di Matteo admitted he is ready to drop Torres from starting line up (from Chelsea too this January?) for their crucial group stage match against Juventus in Turin. I looked into the expensive signings Chelsea made for the forward position last decade and all the signings have failed to live up the expectation barring Didier Drogba and to an extent Nicolas Anelka. Was that due to the presence of established Drogba(I know he also struggled in his initial years) in his years in Chelsea or due to the pressure of inflated price Chelsea had to pay for their services?
Mutu, Crespo, Kezman, Shevchenko, Pizzaro, Torres all were star at their clubs before Chelsea signed. But never gave a convincing display in Chelsea’s shirt. My conclusion for that is the absence of a creative midfield to support them. When Lampard was first choice, he first aim’s to post, if not would search for Drogba. Other forwards were considered as the last resort. This year, after forming a creative midfield in form of Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Chelsea tried to solved the problem. But instead of feeding Torres, they are trying to run show by themselves. Whose chance is next?
